Theatrical interpreters interpret on-stage performances by using Hong Kong Sign Language and physical movements, so Deaf audiences can 'hear' the actors' dialogue and sound effects. But did you know that Deaf people and people who are hard-of-hearing can also become excellent theatrical interpreters?
Taught by local Deaf actor and experienced theatrical interpreters, the 'Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Theatrical Interpretation Training Workshop 2025' aims to train Deaf and hard-of-hearing participants to interpret actors' dialogues, lyrics, and sound effects using Hong Kong Sign Language and physical movements.
This course covers text and lyrics analysis, physical movement exercises, interpretation techniques, and collaborative interpretation between Deaf and hearing interpreters. Participants will not only receive hands-on stage practicum experience but, upon passing the exam, may have the opportunity to become a theatrical interpreter with the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong.
If you are interested in becoming a theatrical interpreter or are passionate about performing arts, we sincerely invite all Deaf people and people who are hard-of-hearing to apply for the 'Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Theatrical Interpretation Training Workshop 2025'!
